Development Internships

The Development Department is the most essential part of any nonprofit organization. Without the contributions and support of our members, our organization would cease to exist. The work we do is exciting, diverse, and crucial to our organization’s ability to maintain its programs.

The ACLU of Washington and its Foundation operate jointly as a nonprofit public interest organization devoted to protecting civil rights and civil liberties. With a staff of more than 25 and many volunteers, the Washington affiliate is one of the largest and most successful in the country.

Intern with us to increase your communication, marketing, and administrative skills by assisting in gift reporting, maintaining member records, keeping our donors informed of our important work, and a variety of other tasks.

Interns are encouraged to earn academic credit for their work. Average hours are 12-20 per week, with flexibility in days and hours according to each intern's needs. All positions are unpaid, but the experience you gain is priceless. We are also looking for volunteers of all skill levels.

Responsibilities include:

  • Electronically reporting gifts and memberships to our national office.
  • Welcoming new members to our organization by sending them new member packets which contain information about our work and the many ways in which they can support us.
  • Mailing membership renewal appeals to lapsed members.
  • Conducting online research important to our donor cultivation and solicitation efforts.
  • Assisting in our administrative tasks by entering data, filing, preparing labels for mailings, coding membership brochures, copying, and numerous other tasks as assigned.
  • Preparing and sending out many important mailings that help us keep us and our members in touch with each other.

Send résumé to Erica Peters, Campaign Associate, at 705 2nd Avenue, 3rd Fl., Seattle, WA  98104, or e-mail at epeters@aclu-wa.org.
