The Exonerated is the true story of six death row inmates who were later proven innocent and released back into society. Using their own words, court testimony and notes, this film exposes the limitations of the American justice system and the inherent unfairness of the death penalty.

The film is an adaptation of the off-Broadway play of the same name, directed by Bob Balaban. It features Brian Dennehy, Danny Glover, Delroy Lindo, Aidan Quinn, Susan Sarandon and David Brown Jr.
