ACLU of Washington supporters recently received an email with an upbeat video inviting them to celebrate Pride with us at events around the state. The appealing production was the handiwork of Grace Wan, our new Online Communications Intern.

Grace Wan is a rising junior at University of Michigan majoring in Political Science and French, and a graduate of Skyline High School in Sammamish who has long had an interest in political issues. As an International Baccalaureate student in high school, she took a Theory of Knowledge class where students considered the ethics of the death penalty and abortion. In a college class on the History of Law and Social Justice, she studied “cause lawyering” in civil rights, including school segregation, housing discrimination, and incarceration.

“We spent a lot of time going over court cases and amicus briefs that dealt with issues of race, and the ACLU played quite a large part in this,” said Grace.

She applied for a summer internship at the ACLU-WA after hearing a guest lecture by Kary Moss, executive director of the ACLU of Michigan. “She talked about her work with the ACLU, and I thought it was really cool,” Grace recalled.

Grace studied graphic design in high school, learned Photoshop and Illustrator, and made videos for a student club in college. As the ACLU-WA’s first online communications intern, she will work on online campaigns, research online marketing, collect analytics, and help optimize our content for search engines and social media sharing. In her spare time, Grace enjoys hiking, exploring bookstores and stationery stores, and playing the violin.
