5 Year Anniversary Rally at NWDC

Date:
Sunday, March 10, 2019 - 1:30pm to 4:00pm
Location:
Northwest Detention Center
Join us on Sunday 3/10 to commemorate five years of fierce resistance to NWDC and the deportation machine. We'll make music to celebrate the resilience of our movement, and we'll hear from folks who participated in the original action to shut down NWDC in 2014.

On February 24, 2014, activists locked down outside the Northwest Detention Center. They shut down the street for hours, blocking the departure of a bus that was scheduled to transport detained people to a processing facility for deportation. People who'd been slated for deportation that day mobilized their comrades on the inside and launched a hunger strike - one of over a dozen that have happened since 2014. NWDC Resistance was born out of that moment of close collaboration and solidarity, the beginning of a powerful partnership between activists resisting from the inside and activists resisting on the outside. In the words of NWDCR co-founder Maru Mora Villalpando, who locked down with other activists in the original blockade - "We started five years ago, and we won't stop until NWDC is shut down!"
