A few resources for discussing race, racism, racial justice, free speech, and current events in the classroom.
  • ACLU guide to Student’s Rights – The Supreme Court ruled in 1969 that students do not "shed their constitutional rights to freedom of speech or expression at the schoolhouse gate." This is true for other fundamental rights, as well.
  • Learning for Justice – Classroom resources from to help bring relevance, rigor, and social emotional learning into the classroom, while providing common language and a road map for anti-bias education at every grade level.

  • Nate Bowling: Teaching Civil Liberties – After the deaths of Mike Brown and Eric Garner in 2014, Nathan Bowling (2016 Washington State Teacher of the Year) put together a syllabus for teaching students how to deal with the police.
