Following the delay in plans to close the youth jail, which King County Executive Dow Constantine pledged would happen by 2025, youth policy program director Roxana Gomez had this response.

“Like many community partners, we are disappointed that King County has announced the decision to delay the closing of the youth jail past the year 2025. This delay makes the work to improve conditions at the youth facility ever more pressing and urgent.

We look forward to working with the Executive and Council in centering the rights of the youth incarcerated at the facility, and ensuring the facility’s policies receive necessary improvements and oversight, all while the new system is being developed.”
